Senate considers bill to ensure individuals in Russia held responsible for corruption, human rights abuses
It is time for the Government of Canada to bring forward the required legislation, which the previous Parliament supported, so we can send the Russian government a message that re-engagement is on our terms, and not on theirs.
Then-Liberal MP Irwin Cotler, a long-standing advocate of justice for many around the world, including Sergei Magnitsky, said: 'The unanimous support of this motion sends a clear signal to human rights violators in Russia and around the world that they will be held to account for their crimes. By imposing sanctions, we can impose meaningful penalties on human rights violators and deter future violations.' The Hill Times photograph by Jake Wright
