Re: “When planning nuclear waste sites in Canada, consider Ukraine’s potential nuclear crisis,” (The Hill Times, July 6). Erika Simpson will be pleased to hear that the Canadian nuclear industry is already doing all the things she suggests in her opinion piece. In fact, one of the issues that drives Canada’s plan to dispose of used fuel in a Deep Geological Repository is that it will remove it from any risk of being present in a field of war. Another is that it is, by far, the most effective way of ensuring that the water we use is never affected. Simpson can read about these plans on the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s website, where she will find that all her concerns are addressed in full and all her questions are answered. We look forward to her active support for the Deep Geologic Repository project. Doddy Kastanya Canadian Nuclear Society president Toronto, Ont.
