This year’s budget speech should be different
We urgently need a sense of shared citizenship and a positive patriotism that takes pride in our country. Instead, we have a political environment that divides Canadians by engaging in identity politics.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, left, is likely finalizing the federal budget. While the onus will be on her to come up with a budget that is designed to take us forward to something better, our political, business, and academic communities must double down to restore patriotism and build a unifying sense of citizenship.
