In defence of Canada’s military colleges

Potentially throwing the next generation of military leaders into a civilian university and hoping for the best is risky. At present, more than 60 per cent of the most senior officers in the CAF are RMC graduates, despite representing 30 per cent of all CAF entry level officers. Officer-cadets who graduate from RMC are well-prepared for their future roles leading soldiers, sailors, and aviators into harm’s way, write RMC graduates Bryan Brulotte and Telah Morrison.

Former Supreme Court justice Louise Arbour, pictured on the Hill on May 30, 2022, after releasing her independent report sexual misconduct and sexual harassment in the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. Bryan Brulotte and Telah Morrison, who both attend the Royal Military College in Saint-Jean, Que., say Canada's royal military colleges shouldn't be closed, but can be fixed. Carney’s position on Trump’s Venezuela strike ‘a little wimpy’ in tone, but likely to benefit Liberals in short term, say political players

U.S. President Donald Trump, left, and Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Oval Office on May 6, 2025. This is the year that Trump and the GOP face a reckoning—the November mid-term elections. After a year of chaotic and calamitous governing, judgment day is fast approaching, writes Michael Harris. The year of living dangerously: it’s here

OpinionBY MICHAEL HARRIS
  • For those who think it is over the top to even imagine that the U.S. might reduce Canada to a vassal state the way it has done to Venezuela, consider the words of Bob Rae, Canada’s former UN ambassador, who says that this country faces an existential challenge from Donald Trump’s klepto-imperialism.
