Don’t make regions compete for cash, says Antunes, as feds split economic development files

Federal ministers should be mindful of Canada's broader economic goals as they manage their respective regional development agencies, according to Pedro Antunes, chief economist of the Conference Board of Canada.

Minister of Northern Affairs Dan Vandal, pictured on Oct. 27, 2021, will meet with staff from Prairies Economic Development Canada and the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, as well as partners and stakeholders, to develop economic objectives for the agencies. He assumed responsibility for both agencies following the federal cabinet shuffle on Oct. 26. The Hill Times photograph by Andrew Meade
