‘Choose your poison’ is Trudeau’s dilemma if he wants to decide timing of next election, say pollsters

It’s too late now to call a fall election, but pollsters and some political players suspect Canadians will most likely be going to the polls this spring. Pollster Frank Graves says he doesn’t see any upside for any political party going the polls this fall, including the Liberals, who are up, but not at a level where they could be confident about winning a majority.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, pictured Oct. 27, 2020, in Ottawa. With the polling numbers trending upward for the government, Mr. Trudeau’s strategists might be tempted to pull the plug on this Parliament, but considering the second wave of COVID-19 is in full swing, it’s highly unlikely that an election will be called this fall, say political insiders.
