Good Tuesday morning, It’s budget day on the Hill! Finance Minister Bill Morneau will table the federal government’s 2018 budget today, with the traditional budget speech to occur at 4 p.m on the floor of the House of Commons. As always, the speech will bring about a flurry of activity, with numerous politicians, stakeholders and commentators to descend on the Hill to respond to the budget, with the House foyer expected to be a beehive of activity in the afternoon. Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is responding to the budget in the House foyer at 4 p.m. Interestingly, Conservative caucus members are spanning out across Canada to offer responses to the budget for local media. Most notably, deputy party leader Lisa Raitt will be at the Ontario Legislature in Toronto for a 4:45 p.m. media availability, while Tory MP and critic for the Treasury Board Gérard Deltell will be in Québec City's Parc de L’Esplanade for a 5 p.m. press conference. Meanwhile, Conservative MP and party defence critic James Bezan is appearing at the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba in Winnipeg at 5 p.m. (Central time), Tory MP Matt Jeneroux will be at Edmonton City Hall at 4 p.m. (Mountain time), and caucus colleague Dan Albas will be stopping at the B.C. Legislature in Victoria at 3:30 p.m. (Pacific time). Finally, Conservative MP Kevin Waugh is appearing at the Saskatchewan Legislature in Regina at 5 p.m. (Central time). Earlier in the day, Conservative MPs Pierre Poilievre and Alain Rayes are holding a pre-budget press conference at 10 a.m. in the House foyer As for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, he will attend the weekly cabinet meeting at 9:30 a.m. and then Question Period in the House at 2 p.m. As usual, he will be in the House for the budget speech at 4 p.m. Later on, former Quebec premier Jean Charest will deliver the 2018 Bell Lecture at Carleton University in Ottawa. Mr. Charest’s speech is entitled “Change, Trends, and Canada," and will touch upon NAFTA. The event is to run from 7-9 p.m. at the school’s Richcraft Hall. Moving overseas, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland is meeting with Switzerland's Europe and Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Geneva.
