Through its membership in the Organization of American States, Canada could champion a framework for dialogue with other countries in the region with an aim to find a peaceful solution to the political crisis in Venezuela. Luis Florido, president of the National Assembly of Venezuela’s foreign affairs committee and an opposition politician, conveyed this idea to Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion during his visit to Canada last week. He was joined by other opposition-party members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Policy, Sovereignty, and Integration.
