Not Afraid to Bite the Hand that Feeds Him

Whenever Canadian reporters want an opinion on the complexities of sovereignty in the Arctic North, one of the people they turn to is Michael Byers. To that end, Mr. Byers, the Canada research chair in global politics and international law at the University of British Columbia, has not only shed light on the murky question of who owns the Northwest Passage, but he has also criticized government policy on international law issues.
