Canada’s Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Alvin Curling, has been recalled. Mr. Curling, a former Speaker of the Ontario Legislature born in Jamaica, had only served one year of his three-year term when he received a tersely worded email on Aug. 29 informing him of the move, reports the Toronto Star. Mr. Curling was appointed by Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin last year. Mr. Curling’s recall comes just weeks after another Liberal-appointed envoy, Yvon Charbonneau, was recalled from his post as ambassador to UNESCO in Paris.
