Time for Morneau to step up to the plate and handle economic crisis, that means now

The Liberals’ slow response to the economic crisis mirrors that of the Conservatives who, on first being elected in 2006, refused to recognize the world was on the brink of the Great Recession.

In fairness to the Liberals, they did inherit a mess from the Conservatives—an economy in recession in the early part of last year, weak job growth, restrained business investment and collapsing commodity prices. But it’s Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s job, not the governor of the Bank of Canada’s, to stimulate the economy. It’s time for Morneau to step up to the plate and deliver what Canadians expected from their new government. That means now. The Hill Times photograph by Jake Wright
