These words have been overused, but these really are extraordinary times. The global COVID-19 pandemic crisis means people are dying, the economy is tanking, front-line health-care workers need urgent help, the federal government is spending billions of dollars in record speed and rewriting programs on the fly, and the future is uncertain. Strong political leadership is critically important right now in our country and it can save lives. We said this last week, but we want to repeat it here again on the editorial page: The Hill Times is here to cover this story, the biggest story in the world, from our corner of the world. We are shining a light specifically on how this global pandemic is affecting Canadian democracy, Parliament, and federal government policy. We are trying to have a positive influence as we face this awful threat and we are continuing to cover our beats as a community. We are covering MPs, Senators, staffers, cabinet ministers, the PMO, the PCO, the Treasury Board, Finance Canada, the government, the bureaucracy, the public service unions, Indigenous peoples, lobbying, federal party politics, public policy, foreign policy, the Parliamentary Precinct, Hill life, Hill media, and Hill people.
