Re: “Winding down of the carbon century will be a test for all Canadians,” (The Hill Times, Nov. 20, p. 7). Canadians will fail the test of winding down the carbon century unless we see the obvious. Analysts see demand for oil hitting a plateau within about a decade, and then declining as the world decarbonizes. World supply of crude is, for practical purposes, infinite, as low as $10 per barrel, and oil sands producers are dissatisfied with the price they’ve been getting for the past three years (about $40 per barrel). Isn’t it obvious that the party is over for oil sands?
