It’s been called the Seinfeld Election, the election about nothing, and, despite its downright nasty, dirty tone, the 43rd federal election, in all its guts and glory, really comes down to leadership and who’s best to lead the country over the next one to four years, depending on Monday’s outcome. The next leader of our government, who may or may not be working with a coalition, has to tackle the immediate crisis of climate change and has to do so with bold leadership. This won’t be a tea party, and this is no easy task. Considered the top issue for most voters in Canada in this 40-day election, this issue, more than any other, requires political bravery, vision, and action. The next leader has to have the guts and the chutzpah to do the right thing for the entire country and for future generations, and the next leader will have to work across party lines with the other parties in Parliament and in the provinces to get the federal and provincial laws needed passed. That’s the kind of leadership Canada needs in Parliament, and not just from the party leaders; from everyone.
