OTTAWA—Growing up in a political family in Leeds-Grenville, I knew from an early age that there was a high probability that Gord Brown and I were eventually going to face off in the political arena. We were both political junkies, active in our respective associations, close in age, and had learned our craft from the ground up. I managed to get in first, at the federal level, but could clearly hear Gord’s footsteps and the game was on.
