Given Transport Canada’s consistent record of ignoring Parliament, MPs can expect these recommendations will be given little more than lip service. It is time for Parliament to put Transport Canada on a shorter leash where disclosure is the rule.
The committee recommended Transport Canada immediately open its aviation safety oversight program to a full audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization. Transport Minister Marc Garneau’s reply means the audit will not happen until after the next election.
