Grit backbencher’s fight with government over gutting genetic discrimination bill comes to a head

Liberal MP Rob Oliphant and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould will go head to head this week over the Genetic Discrimination legislation, Bill S-201. As well, MPs will learn the fate of amendments to Bill C-22, which creates the proposed National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians. The Hill Times photographs by Jake Wright

Despite the government’s continued interventions on a private member’s bill from the Senate on genetic discrimination, Liberal MP Rob Oliphant, the House sponsor of the legislation, says he’s “cautiously optimistic” that it will pass without the government’s proposed amendments to gut the proposed law.
