Prior to the last federal election, then-third place party leader Justin Trudeau promised to rank-and-file Liberal Party members that under his leadership, all Liberal Party nomination contests will be open, fair, and transparent. In the vast majority of cases, contests were mostly fair and open, unless Mr. Trudeau wanted someone of his own choice to be the party’s candidate in some ridings. This resulted in numerous controversies from coast to coast.
