It was shocking news to hear that Mike Robinson had died last week. At the age of 65, he died suddenly while holidaying with his wife of 40 years, Mary-Louise, in their home in the south of France. They had been there only one week. By all accounts, he left behind a very loving family and an extraordinarily big circle of friends reeling back here in Canada. Liberals and Conservatives talked about his decency, his intellect, his skill, and his “large, infectious” laugh, as Susan Delacourt wrote in her iPolitics column. He was praised in The Hill Times, iPolitics, National Newswatch, and elsewhere for his skills as an organizer, his deep understanding of policy, his strong views, his ability to make friends.
