OTTAWA—Bill C-6, which alters the Citizenship Act, has completed the hearing process and is now proceeding to a clause-by-clause examination. It’s interesting to look at this bill and contrast the nature of testimony to the former Conservative government’s Bill C-24, the Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act. There are similarities and differences between the two. As well, it’s noteworthy that a number of suggestions were broadly in line with the government’s overall agenda of diversity and inclusion. It will be interesting if the government actually responds to these by making amendments to the bill.
