When rookie Liberal Peter Schiefke, 36, won the Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Que., seat on Oct. 19, the media quickly picked up on his musical past and dubbed him Canada’s first “ex-boy band MP.” Today, he’s a pretty savvy rookie MP. An environmentalist, he’s already been doing the ‘political talk show circuit. He was on CBC’s Power & Politics last Friday debating the government’s role at COP21 with NDP MP Nathan Cullen and former international trade minister Ed Fast. Last week he was named parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister (youth). But a decade ago, he was a provincial heartthrob. From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Schiefke sang in the five-member Quebec boy band, Inmotion. Quebec’s answer to NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys, the band had a chart-topping single, Sauve-Moi, in 2003.
