Conservative MP Deepak Obhrai will host the 15th annual national Diwali celebration on Parliament Hill today, starting at 6:30 p.m. The evening will feature Diwali Pooja, speeches from political leaders, cultural performances and a reception. The event takes place in the Sir John A. Macdonald Building main hall. Mr. Obhrai has been organizing the event since 1998. “Over the years, it has blossomed into a very popular Canadian multicultural event with over 500 people in attendance every year. MPs and Senators from all political parties and members of the diplomatic corps have attended the National Diwali Celebration, thus making it a truly national event,” he said. The event takes place at the Sir John A. Macdonald Building main hall in the Parliamentary Precinct, 144 Wellington St.
