Choosing right interim leader a critical first step for Conservatives

To grow, the party will need more than a caretaker, someone who simply ensures that the wheels don’t fall off—they need to immediately show to Canadians that they are ready to address the verdict handed to them on Oct. 19.
The renewal of the Conservative Party of Canada needs to begin with the election of an interim leader and can’t afford to wait for a new permanent leader. Details of the leadership race have yet to emerge, but it could be a year or more before a permanent leader is elected.
