ORILLIA, ONT.—Fresh water is central to Canada’s identity. It is represented in the images of Canada we promote to the world, in our collective heritage, and even in our beer commercials. Individually, we each have our own unique connection to freshwater—favourite memories of family time at the lake, hanging out at the beach, or taking time away to fish our favourite stream. In the winter, we skate, ski and shovel snow. In so many ways, water is life—from the mundane to the truly spectacular—and the health of our rivers, lakes, and streams is a true reflection of the health of our country.
