Last Tuesday, Dec. 4, the Federal Court of Appeal heard the House of Commons appeal of the decision rendered by a Federal Court judge in the Jim Pankiw case. The appeal was dismissed from the bench that same day. This is a victory both for the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) and for all Canadians. The House of Commons and its members are subject to the Canadian Human Rights Act except when they are engaged either in a Parliamentary proceeding in the House Chamber or in committee or in activities closely and directly linked to such a proceeding.
