Former Liberal MP Leona Alleslev stunned the Hill when she announced she was crossing the floor to join the Conservatives on Monday, Sept. 17. A rookie MP who won her Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill, Ont., by a margin of 1,093 votes in the last election, Ms. Alleslev said she was concerned with the Liberal government’s inadequate military spending, and said her attempts to raise concerns about it were met with silence. A graduate of the Royal Military College, a former captain in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and a former civil servant at the Department of National Defence, Ms. Alleslev also held senior positions at IBM and Bombardier.
