PARLIAMENT HILL—Have you or do know anyone who has dealt with mental health issues or suicidal thoughts? I have. I survived two suicide attempts and suffer from mental health issues. To make a long story short, I lived through this because I was afraid and ashamed to ask for help. I’m #BrokenNoMore and that is why I’m reaching out to you and asking for your help, for your ears and guidance. Please hear me. Listen to what I have to say. Self-harm and suicide are not something people like to talk about. These are uncomfortable subjects and most people will go to great lengths to avoid discussing them. But it is time to accept that initial discomfort and bring these topics into the light for discussion. It is only by speaking frankly, that we will find solutions. Doing so will help us prevent these very preventable injuries and deaths. That is why I am asking the Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology to examine and report on suicide prevention and mental health needs among Canadians.
