WASHINGTON, D.C.—NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has been missing in action and a byelection far away from his hometown in the GTA appears to beckoning him. Many have urged him to run for a seat in the House of Commons since being elected party leader in October of 2017, including former NDP leader and Question Period extraordinaire, Thomas Mulcair. Could this byelection run be the tonic that Singh needs to avoid electoral disaster and a very real chance of resignation in 2019? Well, it should help if he does manage to win. We must remember that the NDP only won this seat by 500 votes in the 2015 election, so he may have a battle to fight first.
