Melanie Snow and Sarah Korpan

Melanie Snow is a legislative affairs specialist with Ecojustice in Ottawa, the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation. She strives to reform and modernize current environmental laws and policies with the hope of building a better, healthier earth and a more just society. Sarah Korpan is a legislative affairs specialist with a decade of experience in provincial government policy and regulatory development. She leads Ecojustice’s efforts to advocate for a biodiversity law in British Columbia.

To create real accountability, the proposed law should require transparent reporting on both the targets and the plan (including reasons for failures) and empower the Environment Commissioner Jerry DeMarco, pictured, to examine and report on the Government of Canada’s implementation of the plans to achieve the targets.  The Hill Times photograph by Andrew Meade
