Exchange rates and currency values—themselves linked to broader global economic trends—can have an uneven impact on food prices.

A couple of months ago, Canadians were talking about the price of cauliflower—$8 a head! The great Cauliflower Crisis has eased of late, but Canadians are still facing higher prices for fresh fruits and vegetables this winter season due to the sharp slide in the value of the Canadian dollar.
