After saying two weeks ago the House wouldn’t adjourn before June 20 Government House Leader Don Boudria pulled the plug on the House of Commons a week early, after failing to get unanimous consent from MPs. Several NDP and Tory MPs objected to the move, forcing the minister to move a special adjournment motion that […]
It’s also Ukrainian
Great article in last week’s Hill Climbers column “Ukranian students say it’s a ‘life-changing’ experience,” (The Hill Times, June 9). However, the word “Ukrainian” was spelled incorrectly “Ukranian” as opposed to “Ukrainian” throughout the piece five times, including the title. Also, according to Canadian Press style, it is simply “Ukraine,” without a “the” preceding it. […]

Name three good things Libs have done
I am from Western Canada, Alberta to be exact. I was just wondering can anyone tell me three things our current federal government has done in all the years in power that helped guys like me, your ordinary hard-working Joe Blow? Please don’t say the gun registry or I’ll know you’re a politician! I bet […]

Peter MacKay is getting it rough these days. Most Canadians are not anti-American
Every time an international crisis erupts, most critics on the left/liberal of the political spectrum either come out to vilify the United States for being selfish and isolationist if it doesn’t do anything or arrogant and unilateralist if it does something. Most of them criticized the United States when it took a long-due military action […]
“How will CanWest News’ recent layoffs of veteran Hill reporters, such as Susan Delacourt and Joan Bryden, impact federal political coverage?”
Warren Kinsella Liberal strategist “Off the top, I’ll declare a conflict: Bryden and Delacourt are both friends, so I oppose any move to keep them from doing what they do best — which is political journalism. That kind of journalistic experience and excellence is impossible to easily recapture, so — yes — I wonder what […]
Radwanski’s saga unfolds
Regarding “Privacy and access should come under one roof,” (The Hill Times, June 9.) It was a very well-written article by Paco Francoli. It seems the Privacy Commissioner George Radwanski does not seem to understand the meaning of “original copy.” Do keep me informed as his saga unfolds. Sunil Dholakia Toronto, Ont. Regarding “Privacy and […]
Merits of Canada’s firearms
Arguments on the merits of Canada’s firearms laws in your paper over the past several weeks, in articles and lettersranging from the astutely analytical to the testily defensive — have among them, so far as I recall, ignored large changes in public policy and crime rates during the past 40 years. Over this span of […]
