Pressure mounts for Julian, Topp to recuse selves from Sept. 9 NDP federal council meeting

NDP MPs Joe Comartin and Megan Leslie say anyone on the party's federal council should step aside from planning meetings if they intend to run as leadership candidates. 'I would be very surprised if he chairs that meeting,' says Mr. Comartin. 'I would think he probably would get challenged if he did.'

PARLIAMENT HILL—Pressure from NDP MPs mounted Thursday for NDP president and prospective leadership contender Brian Topp to recuse himself from key party deliberations and decisions over the terms and timing of a party leadership convention that until now was expected to take place as soon as next January.
