After six hours of voting and counting six ballots, Conservative MP Andrew Scheer was elected Speaker of the House of Commons for the 41st Parliament. The 32-year-old campaigned on a "respectful and courteous House of Commons in which members can freely discuss laws and ideas, knowing that their rights and privileges are protected." He told MPs: "We have a duty to all Canadians to ensure that the House functions properly."

After six hours of voting and counting six ballots, Conservative MP Andrew Scheer was elected Speaker of the House of Commons for the 41st Parliament. The 32-year-old campaigned on a "respectful and courteous House of Commons in which members can freely discuss laws and ideas, knowing that their rights and privileges are protected." He told MPs: "We have a duty to all Canadians to ensure that the House functions properly."
