When it comes to Bill C-11, the Conservatives seem to have gotten things backwards. They are telling creators to lock down content, while denouncing longstanding royalty systems as unnecessary ‘taxes.’ It is a model that will ultimately fail Canadian creators, consumers and students.
Updating Canada's copyright regime must be a central plank in Canada's innovation agenda. The Conservatives have a golden opportunity to 'get it right' when it comes to copyright.
