A blast southeast of Kandahar City, near the town of Nakhonay, claimed the life of Canadian soldier Sgt. Martin Goudreault on Sunday. The experienced soldier was leading a foot patrol about 15 kilometers outside of the capital when he was killed by an improvised landmine. The Sudbury, Ont.-native was the 147th Canadian soldier to be killed in Afghanistan, and the ninth in 2010. This was the 35-year-old’s third tour of duty in Afghanistan and his fifth foreign deployment.
