While many welcomed the Dec. 8, 2016, announcement of the selection of the Airbus C295 as the replacement Search and Rescue (SAR) fixed-wing aircraft to replace the fleet of Buffalo and C-130 Hercules aircraft tasked with SAR, other may not be so welcoming.
Managing this beautiful but fragile part of Canada responsibly would further reinforce our position that the waters of the Arctic archipelago are internal waters, and that the Northwest Passage is not an international strait.
Global warming has continued to make the waters of the Arctic Archipelago more accessible to maritime traffic. Data from the National Snow and Ice Data Centre suggest that 2016 will be yet another record year.
