“Members of Parliament do tremendously important work—both in Ottawa in Parliament and back home in their communities. They are their communities’ voices in Ottawa, advocating on their behalf and representing their interests. In order to do that effectively, they need to be grounded in their ridings and hear regularly from their constituents. When the House is not sitting, MPs can catch up with them and spend more than just a weekend in their ridings—and that’s especially true for MPs who live far away from the capital.
