Auditor General Michael Ferguson’s audit of the expense claims of some current and former senators has come under fire, mainly from some of those very same senators. Some have even expressed their outrage at having their integrity questioned. Although many of us seem unsympathetic to the plight of these folks, perhaps we are being too harsh. If the recently discovered Secret Handbook of Senate Rules is legitimate, maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to condemn these hardworking Canadians.
