Rob Russo is the Ottawa bureau chief of Canada’s oldest wire service. He’s a respected journalist who was honoured by his peers in 2010 with the Charles Lynch Award for lifetime achievement as a Parliamentary journalist. While CP has faced cutbacks over the years because Quebecor and Postmedia News have left the news cooperative, Mr. Russo has built a core group of experienced, talented, award-winning journalists who also regularly break investigative stories. Last spring, CP staffers Jennifer Ditchburn and Heather Scoffield were honoured with a National Newspaper Award for their investigative reporting. In 2008, CP staffers won the prestigious Michener Award. In his tribute to Mr. Russo in 2010, Don Newman, head of the committee that chooses the Charles Lynch Award winner, noted CP helps set the agenda on Parliament Hill.
