
POWERS: Let us all come to our senses about the census. After spending a week in Newfoundland (mecca of common sense) and seeing but one local story about making the long-form census voluntary as opposed to mandatory I am convinced the current obsession about the magnitude of this change is overblown. The world is not ending—data will still be collected—democracy as we know it will not crumble. The rioting on Twitter and on comment pages will not transfer itself to the streets.
