Q&A with Shawn Alteo: Atleo pushes education in fight for First Nations

AFN national chief Shawn Atleo says education is the key to success in a modern economy and is pushing for 65,000 post-secondary graduates for First Nations in the next five years.

Shortly before AFN national chief Shawn Atleo's 87-year-old grandmother died, she told him it was time to turn "the heavy page" in a "dark chapter" on First Nations history and fill the next one with hope. Elsie Robinson, a mother to 17 children and who outlived three husbands, said it was time for First Nations communities to put down their fists and fight their fight through education. Today, the most powerful First Nations chief in the land has taken his grandmother's advice to heart.
