Political leadership and 'the vision thing'—conflicting views

A Prime Minister who engages in persistent incrementalism based on a systematic, but unannounced plan, may create more significant changes than a PM with a grand vision who is unable to implement it.

Michael Ignatieff, leader of the Liberal Party since Dec.10, 2008, has been urged by a number of columnists (pundits?) to put forward his political vision for Canada. A bold vision is said to be necessary if the Liberals are to replace the Conservatives under Stephen Harper. The same columnists and others portray Harper as a master tactician, and a hyper-partisan, but a man without a political vision—see below.
