| March 15, 2010 Before he won the prestigious Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing last week, author and former Liberal MP John English said he felt like movie star Meryl Streep. He had been nominated by the Writers' Trust in 2006 for his book Citizen of the World: The Life of Pierre Elliott Trudeau Volume 1: 1919-1968, but lost that year to Max and Monique Memni who also wrote about Trudeau in their book Young Trudeau: Son of Quebec, Father of Canada, 1919-1944. But last Wednesday was his night. He won the $25,000 award at the annual Politics and the Pen gala event on March 10 held at the Chateau Laurier for his book, Just Watch Me: The Life of Pierre Elliott Trudeau Volume 2: 1968-2000. | |
