Northern Gateway and Building Trades Unions will protect environment

Collective agreements are economic documents that set out the price to be paid to purchase labour. For a consumer, a collective agreement is a very important document because it determines the cost of labour over the course of construction. It sets the price and allows that consumer to understand the costs that they are facing. Collective agreements can, but all too seldom, are used to achieve a number of important things for the community. The Northern Gateway Pipeline collective agreement is such a rare document. It is pitched to look at the future and ensure the economic participation of northern residents all along the right-of-way and at the terminus. It is about securing training and opportunities for the life of the operation of the pipeline and not for a couple of pipeline seasons. When Northern Gateway Pipelines sat down with Building Trades Unions to talk about how its pipeline project can best benefit workers, families, and communities it took a big step in the right direction for our economy and for our country.
