Feds must ensure Canada’s military culture does not include sexual assault

The minister’s promised review following L’actualite’s ‘Special Report’ on sexual violence plaguing our soldiers is a start—but only a start. Why did the minister not know the extent of the problem in his own department until investigative journalists raised the alarm?

The Canadian Armed Forces has worked hard to open its doors to include women at all levels. However, a recent report about unacceptable rates of sexual assault in our military provides one clue why the rate of women’s participation appears to have stalled.
