Unreported crime a serious problem feds should deal with

Congratulations to Treasury Board President Stockwell Day for raising a serious public policy issue, but to really address it, the government is going to have to ask itself some serious questions about its approach to victims and crime.

In his recent musings about the crime statistics and the levels of unreported crime, Treasury Board President Stockwell Day inadvertently raised an important point. Granted, it was not the one he was trying to make by linking unreported crimes with the government's crime agenda. It's tough to lock up a bad guy if the victim doesn't tell the police he is a bad guy who did a bad thing. But he is right that unreported crimes is a serious issue, especially given all the work that has been done over the last two decades regarding crime victims.
