Most, including Quebecers, say Quebec should require well over 50 per cent to separate: Forum Research poll

Most Canadians, including a majority in Quebec, believe the province’s separation from Canada would require well over 50 per cent of the vote in a referendum on Quebec independence, a Forum Research survey has found.

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair; NDP MP Craig Scott, whose private member’s bill does not define ‘majority,’ but the NDP’s 2013 policy manual sets the required majority at 50 per cent plus one; and Bloc Québécois MP André Bellavance whose private member’s bill proposes to repeal the Clarity Act, a 2000 federal law laying out ground rules for a referendum and negotiations on Quebec secession.
