Quebec Conservative Senator Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu asked a witness at the Senate's Official Languages Committee last week, "When do you anticipate your final census showing no francophone presence in Western Canada?" He later said, "Beyond the folklore and traditions these communities will eventually represent, the time will come when, if there are no ways to protect these communities and keep them vital and if there are no managers in government who make it their mission to do so, their numbers will virtually disappear, even for the day-to-day reality."
