Tories receive $2.6-million from Elections Canada

As the governing Conservative Party argues against the per-vote-subsidy for political parties, it received $2,602,581 last week from Elections Canada for the first quarter of this year. Parties that receive two per cent or more of the national vote or five per cent of the vote in the riding are eligible for a $1.75 plus inflation subsidy for each vote they receive. Elections Canada distributes the money based on the last election and on a quarterly basis.
