House to put in overtime in final four weeks before summer recess

Government House Leader Peter Van Loan says the House will start sitting late for the next four weeks to get bills passed before the Commons adjourns for the summer.

Parliament returns this week with four weeks to go before adjourning to the BBQ circuit for the summer, but MPs will have to earn their burgers and ribs. Government House Leader Peter Van Loan (York-Simcoe, Ont.) will move to extend evening sitting hours in the House so that the government can pass key pieces of its legislative agenda before June 20. Mr. Van Loan’s motion would have the House sit until midnight from Monday to Thursday over the next month.
